Installing Fedora Core 1.0 and Ensim® Pro and Ensim Basic 3.7 for Linux® (LS)January 2, 2004
Introduction
This guide provides instructions on installing Fedora Core 1.0 and Ensim® Pro and Ensim Basic 3.7 for Linux® (LS) using the Installer.
![]()
For simplicity, we refer to Ensim Pro and Ensim Basic 3.7 for Linux (LS) as Ensim Control Panel throughout this document.
Note that Ensim Control Panel now supports kickstart installation using a CD-ROM installation disk.
Installing Fedora Core 1.0 and Ensim Control Panel involves the following four steps.
- Step 1: Creating an Installer file using the Installation Wizard
- Step 2: Downloading the file on to the computer where you want to create the installation disk
- Step 3: Running the Installer file to create the installation disk
- Step 4: Inserting the installation disk into the disk drive of the target server to install Fedora Core 1.0 and Ensim Control Panel
It takes approximately five minutes to create the installation disk and another 30 to 40 minutes to install Ensim Control Panel.

Installing Fedora Core 1.0 and Ensim Control Panel
The following section provides instructions for installing Fedora Core 1.0 and Ensim Control Panel.

Before you follow the instructions in this section, run the Installation Wizard and download the Installer file to the computer where you want to create the installation disk. If you have not downloaded the Installer file, please visit
https://lwpwizard.ensim.com/webgui/overview.php and run the wizard.![]()
To install Fedora Core 1.0 and Ensim Control Panel:
- Log on to the computer where you downloaded the Installer file.
- Insert the floppy disk or the CD-RW disk into the respective disk drive of the computer.
- Linux systems. Run the Installer LWP_makefloppy.sh using the following command.
#sh LWP_makefloppy.sh
- Windows systems. Double-click the file LWP_makefloppy.exe to run the Installer.
- Eject the installation disk from the computer.
![]()
If you do not eject the disk, and you restart your desktop, the installation disk erases your desktop machine and attempts to install Ensim Control Panel and Fedora Core 1.0 on your desktop machine. Unless you remove the disk immediately, you could lose all of the data on your desktop.
Further, before you use the disk to install Ensim Control Panel on the target server, back up important data on the target server. The installation disk DELETES ALL of the data on the target server.
- Insert the kickstart installation disk in the disk drive of the target server on which you want to install Fedora Core 1.0 and Ensim Control Panel.
![]()
If you have chosen to install Fedora Core 1.0 using the set of Fedora CD-ROMs, first insert the Fedora CD-ROM in the disk drive of the target server, not the installation disk.
- Restart the target server by shutting it down, then turning it back on.

If you have chosen to install Fedora Core 1.0 using the set of Fedora CD-ROMs, before you kickstart the installation using the floppy installation disk, you must insert the floppy installation disk in the disk drive and at the first boot: prompt, type ks=floppy. The command instructs the Installer to obtain the kickstart configuration file ks.cfg from the floppy installation disk.
Note that the Installer does not support CD-ROM installation of both the Fedora Core 1.0 operating system and the kickstart installation of Ensim Control Panel. If you choose to install Fedora Core 1.0 using the CD-ROM option, you must choose a floppy kickstart installation to install Ensim Control Panel.
Depending on your choice of installation disk, set the appropriate disk drive as the first boot device. For information on changing the boot device, see the troubleshooting information in the section, Appendix B: Troubleshooting installation issues.
![]()
In certain older systems, you may need to eject the floppy disk after the first restart, otherwise the installation will not proceed. For additional troubleshooting information, see Appendix B: Troubleshooting installation issues.
The installation disk begins installation of Fedora Core 1.0.When the installation completes, the server restarts.
![]()
If you are performing a CD-ROM kickstart installation, when the server restarts after installation of Fedora Core 1.0, set the hard disk drive as the first boot device, otherwise the Installer will repeat the installation of the operating system.
- Optional: If you have configured the Installer to obtain the installation files from the Ensim Control Panel CD-ROM , insert the disks in the disk drive of your target server (when prompted) and press Enter.
The Ensim Control Panel installation begins. All the services and add-ons provided by Ensim Control Panel are installed.
![]()
You must install the Power Tools license to use the Power Tools add-on. See Appendix A: Installing the Power Tools license for details.
The Installer restarts your target server to complete the installation.
- After installation, you need to set up Ensim Control Panel before you can access or perform administrative tasks.
To set up Ensim Control Panel, open a Web browser, enter the following URL, http://<server host name (or IP address)>, and fill in the required setup information.
Appendix A: Installing the Power Tools license
You must install the Power Tools license before Site Administrators can install and configure the required tool. If the Power Tools license is not installed, Site Administrators will get the following error message when they attempt to install a tool, “ERROR: Power Tools License is not installed. Please install a Power Tools License.”
![]()
To install the Power Tools license:
- Log onto the Appliance Administrator control panel.
- In the System Menu section, click Configuration.
- In the Configuration sub-menu, click License.
The License page opens, displaying the Ensim Control Panel license.
- Click the Install/Upgrade Power Tools License tab.
- Select one of the following options to install the license.
